Tech Tips Volume 4, Number 1
Please be aware that the digital photos straight from our digital cameras will be large files (1-3 Megabytes) unless you’ve adjusted the camera settings to a small file size.
If you want to email these large photos to parents, the photos should really be re-sized to a smaller file size before emailing. Sending someone a message with 10 Mbs of attached photos could easily swamp their total email quota.
The program to use to resize photos is PhotoShop Elements. I’d be happy to help anyone learn how to do this. Or you can look at this web page for instructions: http://russelltexas.com/tutorials/PhotoshopElementsImages/resize/resize.htm If you don’t have the PhotoShop Elements program installed, the tech office can install it for you.
For sharing photos among Norwood faculty, the best approach is to save your photo files into our Photo Archive and then send an email to let the teachers know that the files are in the Photo Archive.
You get to the Photo Archive by going to “My Computer à SharedDocuments à Photo Archive”
We are implementing an automatic shut-down of the computers in the computer labs every night at 6:30pm. This will save electricity and it will avoid over-heating of these rooms at night when the a/c is off.
If you’re working on one of the lab computers when this happens, you will have to save your work and allow the computer to shut down. Then you can turn the computer back on to keep working, and it will not attempt to auto-shut-down again.
At 6:20 a message will pop up on the screen saying “This computer is going to shut down in 10 minutes. You must save all of your work now. If you want to keep working, you may turn the computer back on after it has shut down.”
You are allowed to change your notebook computer "wallpaper" (the picture that appears on the desktop background). In order to do so, please follow these steps:
1. Locate the picture you want to use (it must be in "jpg" format – most photos are).
2. Save the picture onto your notebook's “D” drive with the file-name: "desktop" (replace the file of that name that is already there). To save a picture from the internet, right-click on it, and choose “Save picture As…”
3. Restart your computer.
