Teacher videos from another laptop school

Click here to access video interviews with teachers on classroom-management-strategies for laptop classrooms. Click on the video links to view the videos on that page. The sound needs to be turned way up after the intro credits in order to hear the teachers. Check out the third one: “The most important thing that an instructor can do to manage a laptop classroom.”   http://www.irvingisd.net/one2one/classroom_management/cm_interviews.htm

Deleting From Your Desktop -- Caution

Because of the way our computers are set up if you delete something from your Desktop it is gone for good – it does not go to the Recycling Bin.   Not sure what your “Desktop” is? Click here for Windows 101.

Easy Maximized and Non-Maximized

Double-click anywhere in the title bar of any window to maximize or non-maximize that window.   Not sure what the “title bar” is? Click here for Windows 101.

Going Back to the Previous Web Page

Use the “backspace” key on your keyboard.

Grow or Shrink Font in Word

I was happy to find buttons for Microsoft Word which will incrementally increase or decrease the font size of selected text. This is quite useful if you already have specified various font sizes in a document, but want to increase (or decrease) the size of selected text incrementally by 1 point at a time while maintaining differences. To see a video of how to add these buttons to your Word toolbar, click here.

All Day Events on Test Calendars

When you post events to the Test calendars, please check the box that says “All Day Event” unless you want the time to appear.  For example, on the 5th/6th calendar look at Thursday the 28th to see the difference between items with times associated or set as ‘all day events’ and beginning with the grade number.

Online Resources from County Library

Cool Sites for Techies

http://www.A9.com – amazon.com’s foray into the search engine business. The interesting feature is that it returns a page of results that includes web sites, pictures, reference material, books, etc—you specify on the right as to which items you want to view as results.

http://desktop.google.com/ – Google’s foray into the “Find File” business. The Windows built-in “Find File” is pretty weak. This takes it to a whole new level.

http://www.GuruNet.com – offers a free download of a program that turns any word on the computer screen into a clickable item to get instant info on that word, no matter what program you’re using.

http://www.TheBrain.com  -- non-linear file hierarchy (need I say more?)
