Scanning Text Documents
If you have a text document on paper and you want to get it
into the computer, you should scan it with OCR (optical character recognition).
We have this software installed for the scanners in the MMC. There is a help sheet posted above each scanner.
Basically, you set the “Source Type” to OCR and then “Scan to” Microsoft Word.
This software does not support special formatting. In the Lower School the text scanning software is under
Accessories and is named TextBridge Pro. If you have a complex document, please
see Demetri.
Remote Control Mouse
If you or your students are giving a presentation, you might
want to use a wireless mouse to advance the slides. We have two of them. There
is one on the computer in the common room, and another in the ed-tech office.
There are two parts: one is the egg-shaped thing you hold in your hand, and the
other is the receiver which plugs into the laptop. Below are the directions for
the buttons on the egg-shaped thing:
-
Small top button held
for 5 seconds to turn it on
-
Small top button and
bottom button (or leave it idle) to turn it off
-
Hold or double click
the bottom to take control of the pointer
-
Other than that it
works like a mouse with left & right click buttons
on the top; move your hand to move the mouse.
-
It helps to not get to far away from the
receiver – about 20 feet.
Free Taco & Alternate Email
If you go to www.californiatortilla.com
and give them your email address, they’ll email you a coupon for a free taco (in
exchange for your email address)! This is an excellent example of when you might
want to use an alternate email account instead of your Norwood account. For example, if you go to www.hotmail.com or www.yahoo.com, you can sign up for a free email account, and then use it for things
like this.
By the way, if you go to this restaurant, under no circumstance try the “Dave’s
Insanity Sauce” from their rack of hot sauces.
Norwood Directory
If you need a parent address, faculty home number, or if you’re just looking
for the most up to date info, use the online Norwood directory. Dom updates it regularly
with the information that people send in. Just go to the Norwood home page, and click on
“Directory.” If you’re sitting at any computer, it’s probably faster to access
our online directory, than to go looking for the paper version.
Speaker Phone
To use the “speaker phone” function of your Norwood telephone, all you have to do is
press the “On/Off” button on the phone. If you are on the phone in regular
mode, and want to switch to speaker phone mode, just press the “On/Off” button
and then hang up the phone.
