Golden Rule
Always treat others on the Internet the way you want to be treated.

Shouting
When you type a message, don't use ALL UPPER CASE letters, because on the internet this is shouting. It is considered to be rude.

Check your spelling
By proof-reading and spell-checking your messages, you can catch errors.

Spam
Do not send or forward junk-mail, chain letters, or virus warnings. Another name for junk email is "spam." Virus warnings are usually hoaxes. Forwarding these items wastes people's time.

Emoticons
When you are talking to someone on the telephone it is easy to know whether they are happy or sad by the tone of their voice. When you are sending an email it is more difficult. Sometimes people use "emoticons" to make their tone more obvious. Emoticons are made with some of the punctuation keys on the keyboard.

:-) Happy
 :-(
 Sad/angry
 :-o Wow!
 :-|
 Grim

Acronyms
To avoid too much typing, some people use abbreviations of familiar phrases. They usually use the first letter of each word.

ASAP As soon as possible

JAM

Just a minute
BBL Be back later

JAS

Just a second
BRB Be right back

LOL

Laughing out loud
BTW By the way J/K Just kidding
 C U L8R See you later

OTOH

On the other hand
GTG Got to go

OTT

Over the top
LOL Laughing out loud

ROTFL

Rolling on the floor laughing
B/C Because

RUOK

Are you OK?
TTFN Ta Ta for now IMO In my opinion

Flaming
"Flaming" is when people send mean or angry emails, meant to hurt someone's feelings. If you insult someone with e-mail, they will get angry, just as they would if you insulted them face to face. If someone insults you, be calm. Even if you are angry with someone, you don't need to take things any further. Try being calm, ignoring the message, or sending a polite message asking for them to explain what they meant. It may have been a misunderstanding.

Help Others
Help other people learn more about the Net. Chances are someone else taught you a lot of what you know about the Internet. The Net is growing quickly, and it's difficult to keep up. Other kids, or even your parents and teachers, may need help understanding what it's all about. Try to help them if you can. Who knows? They might show you a thing or two someday!

FYI - for your information
The word Netiquette is the two words, Net Etiquette, joined together.
