Filtering Software

Filtering software blocks most (but not all) inappropriate web sites from appearing on the computer screen. For home computers used by children, Norwood recommends that parents install filtering software. Sources for this type of software for Windows computers are Cyberpatrol, Cybersitter, or NetNanny. America Online users already have many options for filtering available under "parental controls," and do not necessarily need any additional filtering products. Macintosh users have some built-in filtering with OS X, and can also consider Content Barrier or KidsGoGo filtering.

Parents who wish to keep a log of all web site accessed could install a passive monitoring product like GURL Watcher.
