Screen Resolution

The screen resolution affects how big the icons and text appear on your screen.

Laptop screens are pre-set at their optimal resolution.

Desktop computer screens may need to be adjusted, especially if everything appears too big (or too small), or if the screen seems to be flickering. To change your resolution:

  • Right-click anywhere on the desktop, and select "Properties"

  • Click the "Settings" tab

  • Slide the 'Screen Resolution' slider to adjust the settings.

  • Typically, a 17 inch monitor is set to 1024 x 768 for a CRT monitor or 1280 x 1024 for a flat-screen monitor.

  • To solve the flickering issue (CRT screens only), click the button for "Advanced" then the tab for "Monitor" and then adjust the 'Screen refresh rate' upwards. Typically, it should be set to 75 Hertz.

  • Click OK to get out of everything.

  • Click "Yes" to keep changes.
